After the temporary closure of the University of Port Harcourt over the
gruesome murder of four of the University students in Aluu, a community
in
the state, the school authorities have announced the re-opening of
the institution for full academic activities.
The Deputy Registrar of the University, Williams Wodi in a statement
said the decision to re-open the school came following an emergency
meeting held by the University Senate yesterday.
Wodi in the statement urged all students to return to the campus before weekend as normal lectures would commence on Monday.
The registrar assured that peace and tranquility have returned to the
university’s neighborhood especially Omuokiri-Aluu where the four male
students of the institution were gruesomely murdered last month.
He added that the Vice Chancellor of Uniport, Professor Joseph Ajienka
has met with the elders of Aluu community who assured that such ugly
incident would not rear its head again.
It would be recalled that the university was temporarily shutdown
following the crisis that erupted between the community and the students
over the lynch of four students by a mob in Aluu community.
